What is an EXPO you might ask and why is it so important and rewarding? This article will explain in details the concept behind the Universal Exposition EXPO.

What is an EXPO?

A Universal Exposition also known as World Fair, World’s Fair or World Exposition and sometimes spelled expo for short is a large public exhibition. The character and theme of these exhibitions vary from one to another and are held in different parts of the world. There are three approved types of fairs: universal, international and specialized. They usually last from three weeks to six months. Since 1928, the Bureau International des Expositions BIE (English: International Exhibitions Bureau) has served as an international sanctioning body that regulates world’s fairs.

History

World's fairs originated in the French tradition of national exhibitions, a tradition that culminated with the French Industrial Exposition of 1844 held in Paris. This fair was soon followed by other national exhibitions in continental Europe, and eventually the United Kingdom.

Tle last Universal exposition was ‘EXPO 2010 Shanghai China’ held in the city of Shanghai, China. The next Universal exposition will be hosted by Milan, Italy and the name of the exposition is EXPO MILANO 2015: Feeding the planet, Energy for Life.

EXPO MILANO 2015

Expo Milano 2015 is a not-for-profit Universal Exposition with some very distinctive and innovative features. It is not just an exhibition but a process, involving active participation among a large number of players around the theme of Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. It is sustainable, technological, thematic and focused on its visitors. Open from May 1 to October 31, 2015, the Expo will host over 140 participants. Running for 184 days, this giant exhibition site, covering one million square meters, is expected to welcome over 20 million visitors.

Why this is exciting news?

Universal expositions are not a regular or yearly occurrence and the gap between two Universal expositions can be 5 or as much as 10 years! also the next Universal exposition EXPO 2020 will not be held in Europe but in Dubai.  Hence, if you want to study in Europe or are already studying in Europe this is an opportunity to experience something special and unique that comes along perhaps once in a lifetime.
